Drunk driver blamed for recent fatal crash

Car crashes are always an upsetting event; those that result in injury or fatality are even more so. When a crash involves an intoxicated driver, the senselessness of the tragedy is amplified even further, as the victims or their families struggle with the consequences of someone else’s careless actions. A recent crash here in Arizona that resulted in multiple injuries and one death is being attributed to a drunk driver, and it illustrates how getting behind the wheel while impaired can impact so many other people.

Authorities say that a 26-year-old was driving with passengers on a Chandler freeway. The car slid off the road and hit a pole, resulting in the death of one passenger and injury to two others. Police claim that his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.168, which is more than double the legal limit. They also allege that there is more to this incident that may result in the driver facing some serious criminal charges.

One of the passengers has claimed that the driver and a different passenger discussed “drifting” the car prior to the deadly crash. Drifting is when a driver intentionally makes the rear tires of the car lose traction. Law enforcement says that the driver attempted this stunt, causing the car to spin and resulting in a loss of control. Because of this, the driver may now be facing charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and endangerment. He was arrested and is now being held on bond.

When fatal car accidents connected with a DUI happen, they often leave questions behind for the victims or their loved ones. Medical bills, lost income and even funeral expenses can put a great deal of financial and mental strain on a family. Anyone who has lost a loved one to a drunk driver here in Arizona may wish to seek the advice of legal counsel in order to be informed of all options available. Doing so may result in financial compensation, which can be the first step on a path to healing.
